As a federal and state prosecutor for the past 26 years, I have been an eyewitness to one of the darkest sides of society - - organizations which traffic in human misery through the sale of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and other drugs. It is a demanding yet satisfying profession which also gives me the chance to speak to thousands of young people and their parents, I know that boredom is often cited as an excuse which “justifies” experimentation with drugs. Consequently, in every teaching opportunity, I strive to include positive messages about the beauty of life and how it is virtually impossible to be bored when we play close attention to our surroundings. In my view, the cure for boredom is to tap into the sense of wonder we all experienced as little children. In the end, this is infinitely more satisfying than anything the drug culture can offer.

When people enjoy my images, I wish that I could share everything else that I experienced at the moment the shutter was released. For each photograph, I have etched in my memory not only the sight, but the sound, smell and feeling of a place. Hopefully, I have captured enough of the moment to allow you to go there with me, and experience the beauty of the earth.
